The Hertz Tower in Lake Charles, Louisiana, was demolished after sustaining severe damage from Hurricanes Laura and Delta in 2020. The 22-story building, once a prominent city landmark, was reduced to rubble in seconds following a controlled implosion by a demolition crew. Formerly known as the Capital One Tower, the structure had remained unrepaired for years, with shattered windows and shredded tarps. The building’s owners, Hertz Investment Group, had delayed repairs pending a court settlement with their insurer, Zurich. With repair costs estimated at $167 million, the tower was ultimately deemed unsalvageable, ending its over four-decade presence in the skyline.
