Israeli airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs killed 31 people, including senior Hezbollah commanders Ibrahim Aqil and Ahmed Wahbi, on September 20. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the attack targeted Hezbollah’s elite Radwan unit, with three children also among the victims. The strikes followed Hezbollah’s firing of 200 rockets into northern Israel. Earlier in the week, deadly explosions from pagers and walkie-talkies in Lebanon killed 37 people, sparking international condemnation. The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, stated these attacks violate international humanitarian law. The conflict has displaced tens of thousands on both sides.
