Bangladesh’s army chief, General Waker-uz-Zaman, has pledged full support to the interim government, led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, to help it carry out reforms and hold elections within 18 months. Zaman’s commitment follows the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who stepped down and fled to India after 15 years in power amid large-scale student protests. In early August, the military remained neutral during the protests, leading to Hasina’s ouster. In an interview, Zaman expressed his determination to assist Yunus and emphasized the need to remove political influence from the military, ensuring that the interim government can achieve its goals.
