A 64-year-old American woman became the first to use a "suicide pod," known as Sarco, to end her life in Switzerland, raising legal concerns. The woman, suffering from severe immune compromise, died near the Swiss-German border, with the device flooding the chamber with nitrogen to induce death. Authorities detained several individuals, including a photographer, for alleged incitement and accessory to suicide. Swiss Health Minister Elisabeth Baume-Schneider warned that the pod may not comply with safety laws, complicating its legal status in assisted suicide, which remains a contentious issue in Switzerland.
