The UK is chartering additional flights to evacuate nationals and dependents from Lebanon, following intensified Israeli airstrikes on Beirut. Over 150 British nationals were evacuated to Birmingham on Wednesday, and more flights are scheduled from Beirut's Rafic Hariri International Airport as long as security conditions permit. The Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office said it was ready to support "hundreds" more evacuees. Defence Secretary John Healey has stationed 700 British troops in Cyprus for possible evacuations. Israel’s bombing campaign in Lebanon has already claimed over 1,000 lives.
