Hurricane Milton has left more than 2.6 million homes and businesses without power across Florida, with knock-on effects reaching North Carolina (70,000 without power) and Georgia (37,000 without power). The storm, originally a Category 5, has been downgraded to Category 1 but continues to cause widespread destruction. Deadly tornadoes and floods have devastated parts of the state, with deaths confirmed in St Lucie County. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis reported that around 125 homes, mostly mobile, have been destroyed. Rescue efforts are underway as the region braces for further challenges in the storm’s aftermath.
