A Florida boat captain was rescued after spending 18 hours clinging to a cooler in the Gulf of Mexico, following Hurricane Milton’s severe weather. The US Coast Guard found the captain, who had been stranded 30 miles off Longboat Key, on October 10. Despite losing communication during the storm, rescue teams located him after enduring 75-90 mph winds and 25-foot waves. His survival is credited to wearing a life jacket and using an emergency beacon. The man was taken to Tampa General Hospital for treatment. Hurricane Milton caused 16 fatalities across Florida.
