An explosive device struck the Chinese consulate in Mandalay, Myanmar, on Friday evening, damaging part of the building but causing no casualties. Local reports indicate the blast occurred around 7 pm near the Royal Palace. Myanmar's military junta, which took power in 2021, blamed "terrorists" for the attack and announced an ongoing investigation in cooperation with Chinese consulate officials. The building's roof sustained damage, though no injuries were reported. China, a key ally and arms supplier to Myanmar’s junta, also maintains relations with ethnic groups opposing the military. The Chinese embassy in Yangon has yet to respond.
