Daniel Khalife, 23, a former British soldier, was found guilty of spying for Iran after escaping Wandsworth Prison in 2023. Khalife, a lance corporal in the Royal Signals, used a makeshift sling to cling to a food delivery lorry, fleeing the Category B prison. He shared sensitive military information with Iranian agents, including a list of soldiers, some from elite forces. Despite claiming to be a "double agent," Khalife was convicted of gathering and communicating information useful to enemies of the state. His actions posed a serious threat to UK national security.
