Heavy rains hit parts of Andhra Pradesh on Monday under the influence of Cyclone Michaung as the state government issued an alert to the eight districts as it nears the southern coastal region before landfall. "Cyclone Michaung is moving north-westwards in the south-west Bay of Bengal. It is moving at a speed of 8 km per hour and is currently 90 km from Chennai and 140 km from Nellore. It will cross the coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam as a strong storm near Bapatla on Tuesday morning... Fishermen should not venture into the sea and people should stay alert," stated the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy held a review meeting on the cyclone with senior officials and set several relief efforts in motion. Also, an alert was issued to the districts of Tirupati, Nellore, Prakasam, Bapatla, Krishna, West Godavari, Konaseema, and Kakinada.
