Cyclone Michaung Weakens to Depression, Inflicting Havoc on Andhra Pradesh; 40 Lakh People Affected

Cyclone Michaung, downgraded to a depression, battered Central Coastal Andhra Pradesh, leaving destruction in its wake. The storm caused extensive damage, impacting 770 km of roads, uprooting 35 trees, and claiming three livestock lives. The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister's Office reports nearly 40 lakh people affected across 194 villages and two towns, with 25 villages inundated. Although no human casualties occurred on Tuesday, the storm's aftermath claimed 12 lives in rain-related incidents in Chennai. The India Meteorological Department anticipates further weakening into a low-pressure area. Relief efforts, backed by a Rs 23 crore state fund, are underway to address the aftermath, including damaged structures and marooned houses.
