A French warship operating in the Red Sea shot down two drones launched from the Yemen coast, the French defense ministry said Sunday. It said the multipurpose frigate Languedoc intercepted and destroyed a first drone around 9:30 pm local time Saturday and a second one around 11:30 pm, about 110 km from Yemen's Al Hudaydah coast. On Saturday, Yemen's Houthi militants had threatened to target all ships heading to Israel regardless of nationality. The Iran-backed rebels have seized and attacked several Israeli-linked vessels in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab strait, a key global oil shipping channel. France said the drones were destroyed 68 miles off Yemen, averting a potential strike on the warship.
