A 35-year-old woman gave birth on a cot while villagers carried her across a swollen river in Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara district after an ambulance failed to reach her remote village. Savita Vishwakarma went into labour on Wednesday evening, but heavy monsoon rains cut off road access to her hamlet. With no bridge or all-weather road, relatives and villagers carried her on a cot through the river, where she delivered her baby during the journey. They later took the mother and newborn to Amarwara Civil Hospital on a motorcycle after waiting for an ambulance. Both are healthy.
