West Bengal’s SIR appellate tribunals have restored 75,443 names to the electoral roll, accounting for 91% of the 82,782 appeals disposed of so far, according to an Election Commission reply to an RTI query. Another 7,339 names were excluded. Congress MP Isha Khan Chowdhury raised concerns over the high number of appeals filed compared with voters marked “Not Eligible”, seeking clarification from the Election Commission. The data also shows that only a small fraction of the 38.1 lakh appeals filed have been disposed of, with several districts still awaiting decisions. (PC: The Indian Express)
