India’s food safety regulator FSSAI has proposed red hexagonal warning labels on packaged foods and drinks high in sugar, salt or saturated fat. The labels could carry clear warnings such as “High Sugar”, “High Salt” or “High Fat” on the front of the pack. The proposal was submitted to the Supreme Court after the court raised concerns over delays in introducing clearer nutrition warnings. The new system could cover products such as chips, sugary drinks and other processed foods. However, no final notification or timeline for implementation has yet been announced. (PC: X)
