Nepal’s flash flood death toll rose to 1,344 on Saturday, September 5, as rescue teams continued searching eight affected districts and hydropower tunnels. Around 5,000 people remain missing, including at least 589 foreign nationals, while more than 13,000 have been rescued. The floods, triggered by an ice-rock avalanche near the Nepal-Tibet border on August 26, devastated northern and central Nepal. Authorities said 758 recovered bodies were adults, 85 were children and 501 were recovered with missing body parts. Rescue teams from India and China are assisting Nepal. Officials are also focusing on body identification, DNA testing and long-term rehabilitation. (PC: India Today)
