Esteemed poet Munawwar Rana, born in 1952 in Rae Bareli, breathed his last at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences on Sunday night. The 71-year-old, suffering from throat cancer, was hospitalized for 14 to 15 days. Rana, awarded the Gyanpeeth Award in 2014, resonated with the masses through his simple yet profound poems. His iconic work, 'Maa,' holds a special place in Urdu literature. Survived by his wife, four daughters, and a son, Rana's demise prompted condolences from political figures, including Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav. Funeral rites are scheduled for Monday.
