An IIT Bombay faculty member has been booked by Mumbai Police for alleged abetment of suicide and provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act following the death of student Sahil Wakode. Wakode, a second-year student, was found dead in his hostel room on September 19, hours after he was caught using a phone during an examination. His father alleged that Wakode had faced caste-based harassment and mental abuse by faculty. IIT Bombay has denied allegations of caste discrimination and said no disciplinary action was initiated after the examination incident. The investigation has been transferred to the Mumbai Crime Branch. (PC: PTI)
