Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said on October 22 that any fresh Opposition notice seeking the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar would be examined according to parliamentary rules and procedures. His remarks came amid protests demanding Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Earlier notices seeking his removal were rejected by the presiding officers of both Houses, while a subsequent Rajya Sabha notice remained pending. Birla also said MPs could raise issues in Parliament but criticised placards and sloganeering. The controversy continues to intensify. (PC: PTI)
