The Indian Army has dismissed a viral deepfake video that falsely claims China has taken control of parts of Arunachal Pradesh and Indian troops have been denied essential supplies. The manipulated clip attributes fabricated remarks to senior Army officer Lt Gen Girish Kalia. The Army’s fact-checking unit said the video used AI-generated lip-syncing and voice cloning over genuine archival footage. The original video was recorded during a press briefing in Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir, on October 27, 2023, about infiltration attempts along the Line of Control. The Army urged people to verify information before sharing misleading content. (PC: HT)
