The young son of Colonel Manpreet Singh, killed in a gunfight with terrorists in Kashmir, solemnly saluted his father's body as it arrived home in Punjab. Dressed in military fatigues, the boy stood alongside his two-year-old sister, who mimicked the salute, seemingly unaware of the family's tragedy. Colonel Singh's wife, mother, and relatives were inconsolable as crowds gathered to honor the slain soldier. Singh and two others died during a joint operation with police in response to intelligence on terrorists. The 41-year-old commanding officer was awarded the Sena Medal for gallantry. His death represents the sacrifice of Indian soldiers combating terrorism in Kashmir.
