A court in souther Russia sentenced a Ukrainian man to 11.5 years in jail for espionage, as he tried to obtain secret missile components for Ukraine. Sergei Krivitsky, 57, was found guilty by the FSB, Russia's security service. He was accused of working for Ukrainian military intelligence. Krivitsky hailed from Melitopol, a city now under Russian control. Russia claims it's part of its territory, but Ukraine and the West disagree. In 2023, Russia saw a surge in espionage and treason cases, with 31 espionage cases and 98 treason cases, the highest since the Soviet Union's collapse.
