Prime Minister Modi has described the passage of the long-pending Women's Reservation Bill as an 'agni pariksha' or trial by fire for MPs. During the Cabinet meeting clearing the bill for 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies, PM Modi called it a test for lawmakers. The bill, to be introduced on Tuesday, is expected to have provisions including rotation of reserved seats and quotas within quotas for SC/ST women. Officials said full implementation may only happen in 2027 after Census and delimitation.
