A 22-year-old student in Pakistan's Punjab Province has been sentenced to death for allegedly preparing photos and videos containing derogatory words about Prophet Muhammad and his wives. A 17-year-old was also jailed for life in the same case. Both deny the charges, claiming they were trapped. The complaint, filed by the cybercrime unit in Lahore, alleged the dissemination of blasphemous content via WhatsApp. Blasphemy is punishable by death in Pakistan, where laws were first established by British rulers and expanded under military rule. The father of the sentenced student plans to appeal the verdict.
