Severe flooding in southern Brazil has claimed at least 57 lives and displaced nearly 70,000 people, according to civil defense authorities. Heavy rains have inundated streets in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, forcing residents to evacuate. The flooding has also left 74 people injured and 67 missing. Firefighters are working to rescue those trapped in submerged areas. The rapidly rising water levels are putting pressure on dams and posing a significant threat to the city of Porto Alegre, which has a population of 1.4 million.
