The Manipur government has declared the entire state, barring 19 police station areas, as a 'disturbed area' under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) due to the law and order situation. The notification states that violent activities by insurgent groups warrant the use of armed forces. The move comes after massive protests erupted over the kidnapping and killing of two students, whose bodies were recently discovered. The incidents sparked clashes between protesters and security forces, leaving many injured. Chief Minister N Biren Singh said the state and central governments are working to nab the perpetrators, with the case handed to CBI. Large police and paramilitary forces have been deployed amid the tensions, while internet services remain suspended.
