North Korea launched an "unidentified projectile" southwards over the Yellow Sea, according to South Korea's military. The launch occurred shortly after Pyongyang informed Japan of plans for another spy satellite launch. Japan issued a brief evacuation order for southern Okinawa prefecture before lifting it, stating the projectile did not pose a direct threat. Earlier, South Korea, Japan, and China urged North Korea to halt the satellite launch. Pyongyang's successful satellite launch in November drew international condemnation.
