Authorities face the challenge of balancing citizens’ right to protest with traders’ livelihoods. 

Reliance Industries on October 16, 2026, said it does not fear competition and welcomes Elon Musk’s Starlink into India’s satellite internet market. The statement followed Musk’s allegations that powerful business interests were obstructing Starlink’s entry to protect existing monopolies. Reliance, led by Mukesh Ambani, maintained that Indian regulations apply equally to domestic and foreign companies, adding that Jio’s satellite internet services are also awaiting necessary clearances. The company highlighted Jio’s growth to over 530 million customers since 2016. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on October 16 accused the Congress and its allies of seeking a Bangladesh-style change of government by using youth-led protests to create political unrest. Delhi has been placed on high alert ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) proposed “Lehra Do Tiranga” march at Central Park, Connaught Place, scheduled for October 16 at 5 pm. Around 6,000 Delhi Police personnel, supported by Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), are expected to maintain security across central Delhi. Authorities have imposed prohibitory restrictions, and Central Park will remain closed on October 16 and 17. Police have also prepared barricades, CCTV surveillance and possible traffic diversions. The protest forms part of CJP’s campaign demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over electoral roll revision concerns.
