Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR) in Delhi suspended classes after a police encounter involving an accused in the Astha Kunj Park alleged gang-rape case took place about 50 metres from its back gate. Classes were suspended from noon on September 22, with some sessions shifted online on Wednesday. Police said the accused, Asif, opened fire when officers intercepted him, prompting retaliatory firing. The incident came a day after a 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped at Astha Kunj Park. An IndiGo Boeing 787-9 flight from London Heathrow to Delhi made an emergency landing at Heathrow on Tuesday evening after a technical issue. Flight 6E4 departed Heathrow at around 8:05 pm and later declared an emergency over the English Channel. The aircraft turned back towards London and landed safely at Heathrow at about 9:23 pm. Emergency services were present after the aircraft landed. The flight was carrying passengers bound for Delhi, and the aircraft had arrived in London earlier from Delhi. The exact nature of the technical issue has not yet been confirmed. The aircraft was taken to a remote stand after landing. (PC: X)

The Election Commission on Wednesday said all its decisions, including the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, were taken unanimously by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi. The clarification came after an Indian Express report said Sandhu and Joshi had recorded objections at least 14 times over 10 months. The reported concerns involved changes to Form 6, centralisation of ERONet controls, voter deletion appeals in West Bengal and 97 eligible voters in Goa who could not be added to the final roll. Mirabai Chanu won her first Asian Games medal on Wednesday, taking silver in the women’s 49kg category in Nagoya, Japan. Bihar minister and BJP Jamui MLA Shreyasi Singh faced criticism after saying that “moral policing can be done in a more decent and elegant fashion” while discussing the alleged harassment of two minors in Jamui. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is marking 40 years of women in combat service, commemorating the first women combatant battalion raised in 1986. India’s exports to the four core BRICS economies—China, South Africa, Brazil and Russia—rose 34% to $19.9 billion during April-August 2026-27, according to Commerce Ministry data cited by PTI. Exports to China increased 39% to $9.6 billion, making it the largest contributor to the growth, while shipments to South Africa surged 58%. Brazil and Russia recorded increases of 13% and 11%, respectively. The four markets accounted for 9.2% of India’s total exports, up from 8.1% a year earlier. Iran reportedly offered to reopen the strategically important Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the United States eased military pressure and lifted its blockade of Iranian ports. The United States has announced an additional $31 million to support Nepal’s recovery from devastating floods. The package includes $10 million for permanent bridges to restore damaged transport links and improve regional connectivity. Another $8 million will fund water, sanitation, hygiene, shelter, protection, livelihoods and winterisation assistance for affected communities. The remaining $13 million will support US-made drones for future disaster-response operations. The announcement was made by US Under Secretary of State Allison Hooker during a meeting with Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal in New York.
