The US government has linked high-resolution satellite imagery provided by Chinese entities to an Iranian ballistic missile strike that killed three American soldiers at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan on July 17, according to a Wall Street Journal report. US officials said Washington had previously warned Beijing about Chinese companies allegedly providing targeting data to Iran. China has rejected the concerns and said its assistance to Tehran complies with international law. The findings could add tension ahead of a planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. India refused to accept the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president and Pakistan Cricket Board chief Mohsin Naqvi after defeating Sri Lanka in the final in Dubai on Sunday. The trophy presentation was delayed by nearly 50 minutes amid uncertainty over whether Naqvi would hand over the silverware. When the ceremony finally began, Naqvi was present on the dais, but the Indian team remained inside the dressing room and did not collect the trophy. Sri Lankan players received their runners-up medals and cheque from Naqvi. The incident echoed last year’s men’s Asia Cup controversy involving India and Naqvi.

A Russian drone struck a passenger train near Ukraine’s border with Poland on Sunday, just minutes after a diplomatic train carrying former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and other European officials had passed through the area. The attack occurred near Yahodyn, around 2 km from the Polish border. Ukraine’s railway operator said the diplomatic train had left earlier than scheduled because of security concerns and suggested it may have been the intended target. The passenger train was hit but no casualties were reported. The strike has raised fresh concerns about Russia’s attacks moving closer to NATO territory. (PC: India Today)

India Women won the 2026 Women’s Asia Cup after beating Sri Lanka by 72 runs in Dubai on Sunday. India posted 183/5 in 20 overs. Shafali Verma scored 68 off 39 balls, while Smriti Mandhana made 59. The opening pair shared a record 129-run partnership. Sri Lanka were then bowled out for 111. Shree Charani took four wickets, while Deepti Sharma claimed three. India secured their record-extending eighth Asia Cup title and avenged their loss to Sri Lanka in the 2024 final. However, the trophy ceremony was delayed for over 30 minutes after the match, with no official reason given.  

An 81-year-old former schoolmate of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sought a CBI probe into a land dispute in Maharashtra. Asgarali Vohra met Modi on September 8 and submitted a letter. Vohra claims he bought around 2,810 square metres of land in Bhayandar East in 1989. He alleges that forged documents were made in 2011 to take control of the property. He has accused builders linked to BJP MLA Narendra Mehta and some officials of helping in the alleged land grab. Vohra filed an FIR in 2015. He has questioned the delay in the investigation and sought a fresh CBI probe.  

Leaders from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are expected to sign a joint declaration on Monday. The deal will seek the right to hold independence referendums. The leaders will meet at a summit in Cardiff. The move comes after US President Donald Trump said he would “love” to see a united Ireland. UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham recently said he could allow another Scottish referendum if there was a “clear consensus”. However, he later said a second vote was “off-limits”. Scottish leader John Swinney said the current situation was not sustainable. Pro-independence parties now lead all three UK devolved nations.  

Israel spent around $470,000, or Rs 4.49 crore, on hair, makeup and other official expenses for its prime ministers between 2019 and August 2026. About 90% of the hair and makeup costs were linked to Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara. Spending rose sharply after Netanyahu returned as prime minister in 2023. The highest yearly spending was recorded in 2025, at about $111,000. Foreign trips also added to the costs. A four-day visit to Washington in February 2025 cost around $13,500 for hair and makeup. Officials redacted the names of stylists, citing security reasons.  

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has warned that AI development is moving too fast. He urged major AI companies to slow the pace of progress. Amodei said AI systems have become much more capable since the summer. Several experts have also raised concerns about the risks. Computer scientist Dame Wendy Hall warned that AI firms should not be left to regulate themselves. She said major accidents could become an “AI Chernobyl moment”. Former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon also warned about the technology’s potential misuse. Scientist Martin Rees said AI could cause a catastrophe at any time and called it a more urgent threat than climate change.  

US President Donald Trump has urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to stop attacks on Russian diesel facilities. Trump said the strikes are causing fuel shortages in Russia. “Let him go after targets but not diesel fuel,” Trump said, according to the Associated Press. He added that Ukraine’s attacks were creating a diesel shortage. Ukraine has carried out long-range strikes on Russia’s oil and gas industry in recent months. Russia has also stepped up air attacks on Ukraine, including strikes on its power grid. Meanwhile, two people were killed and 14 injured in overnight drone attacks in Russia’s Tatarstan region.

India has condemned an attack on the merchant vessel MT El Gaia off Oman’s coast. The Ministry of External Affairs said 13 Indian crew members were rescued. One Indian national is still missing. Search and rescue operations are continuing. The Indian Embassy in Oman is working with local authorities on the case. India thanked Oman for helping rescue its citizens. The MEA called the attack on commercial ships and civilians “unacceptable”. It urged all sides to reduce tensions and choose dialogue and diplomacy. India also called for safe navigation and the free movement of goods through international waterways in the region.
