Former Delhi Congress President Arvinder Singh Lovely has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), days after resigning from his position citing dissatisfaction with the party's alliance with the AAP. Lovely, along with four other former Congress leaders, made the move in the presence of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. Criticizing Congress candidate Kanhaiya Kumar for praising Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Lovely highlighted internal discontent over candidate selections. In Odisha's upcoming Lok Sabha elections on May 13, out of 37 candidates contesting in Nabarangpur, Berhampur, Koraput, and Kalahandi constituencies, 17 are crorepatis, according to the Association for Democratic Reforms. BJP and BJD candidates, along with others, have assets exceeding ₹1 crore. The richest contender, BJP's Malvika Devi, holds assets worth ₹41.89 crore. Conversely, the poorest candidate, SUCI's Pramila Pujari, has assets of just ₹20,625. Educational qualifications vary, with 14 candidates having passed class 5 to 12, while 22 are graduates. Only seven candidates are female, and the age range spans from 25 to 70 years, with the majority falling between 41 to 60 years.

A third gender candidate has filed nomination papers for the Lok Sabha polls in the national capital. Rajan Singh, 26, is contesting from the South Delhi constituency to raise awareness about the struggles and rights of third gender individuals. With a modest asset declaration of ₹15.10 lakh, Singh aims to bring attention to the lack of separate civic amenities and social acceptance for the third gender community. Hyderabad police have registered a case against Union Home Minister Amit Shah and several BJP leaders for allegedly breaching the model code of conduct during an election rally. The complaint, filed by Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee VP Niranjan Reddy, accused them of involving children in the campaign, a violation of Election Commission guidelines. The incident occurred during a rally on May 1, where Shah and others were present. In response, the Election Commission directed an inquiry, leading to the police registering a case under IPC Section 188. The investigation is underway, with Hyderabad Police looking into the matter.
