Six newly-elected MPs from the INDIA bloc in Uttar Pradesh are facing serious criminal charges, potentially jeopardizing their parliamentary seats. Among them is Ghazipur MP Afzal Ansari, who is appealing a four-year conviction under the Gangster Act. Other MPs include Dharmendra Yadav of Azamgarh with multiple charges, Babu Singh Kushwaha of Jaunpur linked to the NRHM scam, and Rambhual Nishad of Sultanpur with eight cases. If convicted, these MPs could lose their membership, altering the balance of power in the state, which saw INDIA bloc win 43 of the 80 seats in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
