Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of "attacking" the Indian Constitution, asserting that the Opposition will protect it against any attempts to undermine it. Speaking on June 24, 2024, during the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha, Gandhi held a copy of the Constitution and stated that no power can undermine its sanctity. This came in response to PM Modi's criticism of the Emergency imposed in 1975 by Indira Gandhi. Opposition leaders gathered in Parliament, holding copies of the Constitution and pledging to safeguard democracy.
