At least 84 people have been confirmed dead and hundreds are feared trapped following a series of massive landslides in Wayanad, Kerala. The landslides, which struck Meppadi and neighboring villages in rapid succession, have caused extensive damage, with many swept away in the Chaliyar river. Rescue operations involve 225 Army personnel, two Air Force helicopters, and a Navy team, but are hampered by ongoing heavy rain and debris blocking access. Prime Minister Modi has announced Rs 2 lakh compensation for victims' families and Rs 50,000 for those injured. Efforts are ongoing to reach isolated areas.
