Viktor Axelsen beat Lakshya Sen in the men’s singles badminton semifinal at the Paris Olympics on August 4, 2024. Axelsen won in straight games, 22-20, 21-14, despite trailing in both games. He praised Sen, calling the match his toughest in Paris and predicting a gold medal for Sen at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. "Lakshya is an amazing player...he will be one of the favorites to win the gold," said Axelsen. Sen led 15-9 in the first game and 7-0 in the second, but Axelsen’s experience helped him stage comebacks. Sen will compete for bronze against Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia. India has yet to win an Olympic gold in badminton.
