Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, on the verge of an Olympic gold in the 50kg freestyle category, was disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024 for being 100 grams overweight. Despite frantic efforts, including cutting her hair, she couldn't meet the weight requirement. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha expressed shock and assured full support. An appeal to reconsider the decision has been filed by the Wrestling Federation of India. Vinesh was set to face the USA's Sarah Ann Hildebrandt in the final.
