Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has called for Vinesh Phogat to be awarded a silver medal after her disqualification for being overweight by 100 grams before the 50kg final at the Paris Olympics 2024. Tendulkar stated, “Vinesh Phogat qualified fair and square for the finals. Her disqualification by weight, was before the finals, and hence, for her to be robbed of a deserving silver medal defies logic and sporting sense.” He added, “It would have been understandable if she were disqualified for ethical breaches.” Phogat has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which is expected to issue a verdict soon.
