PM Modi Calls Wayanad Landslide Disaster “Unprecedented” During Ground Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Chooralmala in Wayanad, Kerala, on August 10, 2024, where devastating landslides claimed over 400 lives. After conducting an aerial survey and visiting relief camps and hospitals, Modi described the disaster as “not normal” and “unprecedented.” He said, “I have seen the situation on the spot. The dreams of thousands of families have been shattered.” Modi pledged central government support for rebuilding efforts and met survivors, including children who lost their families. The state seeks a Level 3 disaster classification for additional aid.
