Phogat was disqualified from the women’s 50kg freestyle final at Paris 2024 for being 100 grams over the limit. Heartbroken, she announced her retirement after a brief hospitalization for dehydration. Higuchi, who overcame a similar setback to win gold in Paris, offered support through social media, encouraging Phogat to rise from her challenges. The Indian Olympic Association awaits the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s decision on Phogat’s appeal.
