Delhi Education Minister Atishi will hoist the national flag at the Chhatrasal Stadium on August 15, 2024, in place of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. This decision was announced by Environment Minister Gopal Rai, who confirmed that Kejriwal expressed his desire for Atishi to lead the Independence Day event. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had earlier informed that Kejriwal wrote to the Delhi Lieutenant Governor regarding the change. However, the LG's office denied receiving any such letter. The BJP criticized the move, suggesting Kejriwal should appoint Atishi as the new Chief Minister.
