Hours after PT Usha defended the IOA medical team, Japan’s Rei Higuchi spoke on what influences a wrestler’s performance. Usha had criticized the backlash against Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala over Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification at the Paris Olympics for being 100 grams overweight. Higuchi stated, “Wrestling is about strength, physicality, technique, mentality, nutrition, weight loss, rest, sleep, video research, and the quantity, quality, and balance of all of these training areas. And an understanding and trustworthy coach.” As a two-time Olympic medalist, Higuchi sympathized with Phogat, who has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport for a joint-silver medal.
