Captain Deepak Singh was killed Wednesday in an encounter with four terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district. The clash occurred in a forested area during a cordon-and-search operation. A civilian was also injured. Security forces recovered an American-made M4 assault rifle and three blood-soaked rucksacks from the site. The encounter, which resumed after a brief exchange of fire the previous night, occurs just before Independence Day. This surge in terrorism has prompted a high-level security review by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi, and NSA Ajit Doval.
