The Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) resumed its strike after violence erupted at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College, where a trainee doctor was raped and murdered last week. FORDA initially called off the strike on August 13 after assurances from the Union Health Ministry but reversed its decision following the attack on the hospital. In a statement, FORDA expressed shock and anguish over the incident, calling it a "dark chapter" and urged for stronger protections for healthcare workers. The Lucknow IMA chapter announced a black badge protest on August 16.
