West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged that workers of CPI(M) and the BJP were responsible for the vandalism at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital during protests against the rape and murder of a trainee doctor. "I have received information that outsiders, some political party workers of 'Baam and Ram,' have done this," Banerjee said, condemning the incident. She announced a rally on August 16, demanding a death sentence for the accused. Meanwhile, the BJP demanded her resignation, accusing her of "gross dereliction of duty."
