The Jammu and Kashmir Police have decided to set up 19 special counter-terror units in 8 districts of Jammu division. The units, to be headed by Deputy Superintendents of Police, aim to combat increasing terrorism in the region. This move follows the appointment of Nalin Prabhat, former NSG chief, as J&K Special DGP. The units are modeled after the Special Operation Group, which was disbanded in most areas after peace was restored in the mid-2000s. The new units will focus on proactive measures to prevent terror incidents and ensure public safety in the Chenab Valley and South of Pir Panjal mountain range.
