ISRO successfully launched its third and final developmental flight, Small Satellite Launch Vehicle-D3 (SSLV-D3), on Friday, carrying the Earth Observation Satellite EOS-08. The rocket lifted off at 9:17 am from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, about 135 km east of Chennai. The mission’s objectives include designing a microsatellite and developing payload instruments compatible with the microsatellite bus. EOS-08, built on the Microsat/IMS-1 bus, carries three payloads: Electro Optical Infrared Payload (EOIR), GNSS-Reflectometry payload (GNSS-R), and SiC UV Dosimeter. The EOIR payload is designed to capture images in IR bands for satellite-based surveillance, disaster monitoring, environmental monitoring, and more.
