The Supreme Court has reprimanded the Bengal government for its handling of the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud declared, “Let not the power of the state of West Bengal be unleashed on peaceful protesters.” The Court criticized delays in returning the victim's body and mishandling by RG Kar Medical College's former principal. It also emphasized that women’s safety in workplaces is a constitutional right. The CBI has been ordered to report on the investigation by August 22, and a task force will address safety for doctors.
