The new principal of Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Suhrita Paul, along with the hospital superintendent and head of the Chest Department, was dismissed on August 21, 2024. The sacking follows student protests demanding the removal of administrative officials present during a recent incident of vandalism at the hospital. The protests were triggered by the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor on August 9. The Bengal government has appointed Manas Bandopadhyay as the new principal. The incident led to extensive unrest, including vandalism and clashes with police.
