Following the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the West Bengal government has made significant administrative changes at the hospital. Professor Dr Arunabha Dutta Chaudhuri, who led the department of chest medicine where the victim worked, has been removed. Professor Dr Bulbul Mukhopadhyay, the former medical superintendent, has been replaced by Professor Dr Saptarshi Chatterjee. Additionally, Professor Dr Suhrita Paul, who had been appointed as the new principal after the resignation of Dr Sandip Ghosh, has been removed. Professor Dr Manas Kumar Bandopadhyay has been appointed as the new principal. These changes follow a protest march by students and senior doctors from the CBI office to Swasthya Bhawan, demanding these administrative adjustments.
