High Court Expresses Shock Over Thane School Rape, Says 'Right to Education' Meaningless if Schools Aren't Safe

The Bombay High Court, on Thursday, made strong remarks while taking suo moto cognisance of a plea regarding the sexual assault of two children at a school in Badlapur, Maharashtra. The court questioned the safety of schools, asking, "If schools are not a safe place, then what is the point of talking about 'right to education'?" The court also criticized the police and state for failing to file a case against the school despite complaints, drawing a parallel to the delayed case filing in the recent rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital.
